Market situation: (1) Currently, the leading weight-loss therapies in the market are GLP-1–based drugs, which primarily achieve weight reduction by suppressing appetite. However, these therapies are associated with significant adverse effects, including gastrointestinal discomfort, which may affect long-term treatment adherence in some patients, as well as weight regain after treatment discontinuation and loss of muscle mass. SNS851 is a novel weight-loss drug with a new mechanism of action and does not exert its effects through appetite suppression. Based on animal studies, no muscle loss has been observed with SNS851, and its overall safety profile has been favorable. Preclinical studies indicate that SNS851 promotes fat metabolism, leading to weight reduction, and concurrently improves fatty liver, blood lipid levels, fasting blood glucose, and insulin resistance. In addition, mouse studies indicate that combination treatment with SNS851 and GLP-1–based drugs at a 50% reduced GLP-1 dose provides greater efficacy than full-dose GLP-1 monotherapy. Moreover, weight regain following treatment discontinuation was markedly slower in the combination group and was superior to that observed with GLP-1 monotherapy.
